Picture crashes but not Platinum

I am running the Platinum software and my notes (albeit from a 1024 x 768 monitor) and the full screen on a 1920 x 1080 projector, as per Patrick Zorn`s recommendation:
http://www.avstumpfl.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=3&t=1518
With this arrangement the 1024 monitor is the primary monitor and the projector the secondary monitor.
However every now and again (often enough for it to be a serious issue) the picture crashes - in other words I am left with a blue screen on the projector and the words "no hdmi signal". The timeline still runs, as does the sound.
Is this because the monitor resolution is too low? (I can adjust it to as high as 1280 x 720 but it still crashes occasionally). Or is there another reason? I don`t want to go out and buy a 1920 x 1080 monitor if that turns out not to solve the problem.
I am running a Barebones Shuttle with lots of power, Radeon HD6870 graphic card etc.
IHR DÜRFET AUF DEUTSCH ANTWORTEN
Many thanks
Ian

Hallo Ian
Did you try to use the Projector as the first monitor and the 1024 as the second one? This is how we do it by default.
greetings
Klaus

Hello Klaus,
Thank you for your suggestion which I tried out - projector primary monitor, monitor secondary monitor. It crashed again after 30 minutes I`m afraid - und zwar showing a relatively low res still picture.
Or could it be my 10 metre long hdmi cable at fault? I`m beginning to wonder:

With thanks again

One way to check that is to use a short HDMI for a prolonged period (1-2hours?) for comparison.
Unfortunately, hardware troubleshooting is a process of elimination.

Hi Klaus and Thomas,
I bought a shorter and (supposedly) better cable - 5 metres - and it still crashes to a blue screen. I am now getting that powerless feeling you get when you run out of ideas.
I read somewhere that overheating graphic cards can cause this. Mine is the "double-decker" Radeon 6870 in a small Shuttle housing. Not much space to breathe in there probably.

Hello Ian,
Sorry to hear it's not the cable length.
If heat, try with the Shuttle cover removed, and a fan blowing at it. (I used to do this with my desktop in the early NLE days with SCSI hard-disks, Win95, etc, and that worked, i.e. eliminated my blue-screens due to heat).
Question: Is hdmi the only option for you to the projector? Could you not try DVI-DVI?

Ian,
I presume you are using a single-channel licence of WP4 in dual-screen mode (1 more Wings + Notes, and other for projector).
Q1: Does projector blue-screen if you were to use only single-screen mode, i.e. projector is one same screen as Wings+Notes? I realise you won't be able to see the timeline and notes in this mode, but just for trouble-shooting purposes...
Q2: Are you using a Multi-display or Pro v4 licence?
Thomas

Hello,
which type of Shuttle?
The Radeon 6870 is on the Support List (for example) SX58J3 but no SLI, or?

Hello Ian,
have you tried the new driver for the 6870 ? Catalyst 11.2 / 15.2.2011

Good luck !

Advanced licence only.
I had the fan manually at 55% in CCI but still got blue (the CCI temperature reading was below 60°C when it happened)
Also tried without the monitor (projector only) - blue again.
Achim,
Yes, SX58J3. No sli
Mr Zich,
I`ve just installed the new driver - we`ll see. Thanks.
Patrick Zorn has also suggested I update the sound driver which I shall do.
By the way, when I have the projector as the primary monitor and shuffle my WP timeline display across to the monitor, the notes don`t appear when I run the show. This obliges me to have the monitor as the primary one I guess, unless someone knows how I can get the notes to pop up when I press play?
Thanks to all, anyway.
